Race 4: Duathlon Series 2024

Overview
Race #4 of the WSTC Duathlon series will be held at the usual location on the Altona Beach foreshore. This event will comprise of varying distance options for Athletes based on age and ability. The duathlon event consists of a Run, Bike and Run in that order. Run courses are located along the ever pleasing Altona foreshore path and the bike leg traverses the full length of the Esplanade.

This WSTC race offers the following event types and available distances. Remember to review the age limits for each event type for juniors prior to entering the event.

Sprint

TA Member: $45.00 (U/18: $30.00)
Non-TA: $45.00 (U/18: $30.00)
Competitors must be of 15 years of age as at 31/12/2023 to enter this event distance.

Enticer

3km/11km/3km

TA Member: $45.00 (U/18: $30.00)
Non-TA: $45.00 (U/18: $30.00)
Competitors must be of 14 years of age as at 31/12/2023 to enter this event distance.

Getting to the Event

Getting to the Western Suburbs Triathlon Club is very easy. The club is located in the same building as the Altona Surf Life Saving Club close to the corner of the Esplanade and Pier Street. That attached café is usually open pretty early so a pre-race coffee is very much an option. Registration is done in the club building (for both registered and on the day entries).

Event Registration

Event registration for all athletes will be done in the club rooms where athletes who have pre-registered and paid can collect their bibs and timing chips for the race. Athletes wishing to be an on the day entry can also register at the club. An entry/waiver form will need to be completed and the club has methods for both cash and card payments for event entry.

Registration will open for events approx. 1 hour before the event is to begin. This will allow enough time to register and set up within transition. You don’t really need anything special for registration – just your name and we will do the rest.

Distance Age Requirements
Each event has age requirements with respect to minimum ages based on distances. The table below provides the minimum ages athletes need to be for each event/distances.

Sprint: Athletes to be 16 and over.

Enticer: Athletes to be 14 and over.

Dash: Athletes to be 12 and over.

Race Briefing

Race briefings for each event generally start 15 minutes prior to the advertised commencement times. The Race Director will provide details as to the course and any changes/alterations made due to conditions as well as general information on safety throughout the event. Please ensure you are in close proximity to the Finish area at this time.

Event Volunteers

It is a requirement for each member to be present for at least one WSTC event during the season in a non-participatory role as a volunteer. Club members will be given an opportunity, as and where possible, to nominate which event they will volunteer at.

Note that while you will be responsible for the volunteer duties (such as marshalling during the event) you do not have to do it yourself. A friend or family member can substitute for you and hence fulfil your obligations to volunteer.

Event Special Notes

The Altona Foreshore is engaging in many infrastructure projects at this time and as a result there may be events that will require and alteration in course i.e. course or lap changes with the possibility of start/finish location changes. These changes will be notified as the event gets closer and communicated both via our FaceBook and website.

For each event where possible, photographs are taken at various points around the course. WSTC have a limited gallery section where all photos are uploaded shortly after the event. From these galleries you can download any of the photos for free!

Generally, all photos are up in the gallery within 48 hours of the event. Also keep an eye out on our Facebook Page where highlighted photos are placed.

Event Results
Event Results are published to the WSCT website (within the event information) generally the afternoon of the event. In the event the results will be a bit later this will be communicated (every so often the Timing Guy and Web Guy have busy Sunday afternoons).
